It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
